WS6Store now has our CUSTOM made short shifter shaft for the T56 transmission. If you know what it’s like to miss third gear when it really counts, blame that rubber bushing on your stock or Hurst shaft. This shaft is solid with the shift mechanism so it is either IN OR OUT of gear -no in between! The shaft was chrome plated before it was machined it so it is very shiny but you can’t see it under the shift boot. The end of the shaft is threaded to fit your stock or Hurst knob. The bottom of the shaft is milled on both sides so it fits flush with the bolts and shift mechanism. In the pictures below you can see the major difference in the height of the stock shaft vs. our short shaft.
The overall length of the stock shaft is 8-5/8″. The overall length of our shortshaft is 6″…which is over a 2″ difference in length. The result after installing this shaft is shorter, faster, and more positive shifts. Throw is reduced by almost a full inch or about 25%. The pictures below display the differences in the 2 shafts installed in the car without the boots in place.
Don’t pay twice as much for the SAME thing! Buy this for half the price and save money. This is a high quality shaft and will give you awesome shifts for many years to come. BOTH of the WS6store owners have this in their personal f-body’s and wouldn’t go without it!
Not only will this shaft work with the stock and stock Hurst shifters, it will also work with many different aftermarket shifters as well, including: Hurst Billet Plus, Pro 5.0, SLP, & Kirban.
*PLEASE NOTE: When installing this short stick on cars equipped with the base non-Hurst shifter, it may touch the console trim ring in 2nd, 4th, and 6th gears. This has not been a problem with the stock Hurst equipped cars or cars with an aftermarket shifter (Pro 5.0, Hurst Billet Plus, SLP)
Installation is a breeze and takes only 5-10 minutes with minimal mechanical skills. Remove the shifter boot, take out the 2 bolts holding your stock shaft in place, bolt the new shaft in place with the included bolts, and put the shifter boot back in…and you’re done. The only tools required are a 13mm wrench, and a 6mm hex socket with ratchet (or a 6mm allen wrench). You will notice a difference right away in your shifts and will wonder why you stuck with your stock shaft for so long!
You get everthing you see in the picture above: one shaft with M16 x 1.50 threads for your stock or Hurst knob, two M8 x 1.25 x 35 socket head cap screws, two Shake proof washers, two Washers, two M8 x 1.25 nylon lock nuts, and one Set of instructions with an AutoCad Drawing of how to install.

This thing is alomst too short. There is very little room to spare in 2nd, 4th, and 6th gears as the shifter almost hits the back of the console. This thing is definitely going to take some getting used to. Very easy to install though, hardest part was removing the shift knob.

I installed this stick on a Hurst billet plus shifter in my ’98 Formula – the install was simple but the holes on the shifter were much bigger than the bolts provided, which meant there was potential for the stick to slip out of place on hard shifts. I found after driving it for a short while that the stick being straight up and down put the gates way too far over to be comfortable to me. I pulled it out and had the stock Hurst stick cut and welded to the same length. Much better feel in my opinion. I would say if you have an aftermarket shifter, you’re better off having the stick cut and welded rather than buying this piece. It’s manufactured very well and I am sure it is an EXCELLENT upgrade to the factory stick, but it’s just not right for me.

This Short Stick will NOT cause your shifter to hit the console as long as you aren’t using the stock, long-throw shifter. I have a Pro 5.0, and theres plenty of clearance between the shifter and console, even in Reverse. Using the stock shifter or stock Hurst unit with this stick is pointless anyway, the stock shifters are garbage compared to any quality aftermarket one, like the Pro 5.0, B&M, or Hurst Short throw.
For the ultimate combo I reccommend the Pro 5.0 with this stick. It has a very direct feel, very precise mechanism, and perfect throws 🙂

This is a great stick for the stock shifter but does not fit right with the aftermarket Hurst Billet Plus shifter. The holes are bigger than the supplied bolts and the only tension holding the stick tight is from the two nuts. I wish you could make a stick to fit the Hurst Billet Shifter firmly like the stick that came with the Hurst.

The shifter shortens the throw alot! It also make a tighter feel between the gears. I attempted to put this shifter on my 96 T/A with the shifter knobs with the emblems engraved and it hit the rim while shifting to second. So I put it on my 2000 SS with the factory hurst shifter and it works perfect!

Great Product with some flaws…I absolutely love this short stick in conjunction with my hurst billet plus….i have driven pro 5.0 equipped cars and have found this to be the best combination ever.
Throw is greatly reduced but effort is increase because of the lack of leverage the stock shifter has….so if you are weaker you might want to start working out
the stick actually interferes with my 98 t/a’s console and i had to shave some plastic away slightly to use it….not noticeable buy wouldn’t have been needed if the stick came with the appropriate spacer to relocate it more towards the driver.
I love this shift stick and wouldn’t trade it for the world but it’s design could use some improvement like a offset spacer to move it more towards the driver and away from the console so we have no interfering problems. If you are shorter or have short arms this product might cause you some difficulty reaching the shifter….i’m 6’2 and its a reach for me almost
so final reviews is great product and worth the money but for that price it should include a spacer or something
oh and one more thing what is in the picture is not what you’re getting mine was dull and dingy looking compared to the polished one in the picture

This thing is awesome! Ordered it on Wednesday, got it on Saturday. I own an 02 Ws6 and have no problem with clearance on the center counsel as I read in some reviews. I got the 6″ model and absolutely love it. Very direct feel and no more reaching for 3rd, 5th, or rev. I will say some leverage is reduced due to the shorter length, but lets be real guys, we don’t own these cars to drive Ms. Daisey around, and the gain in performance is worth the little extra push needed to shift. Also, you don’t need the 5.0 or any other after market shifter in my opinion. I have the stock Hurst shifter that came in the car from the factory. I have short arms and sometimes grind going into 3rd, thinking I was engaged but was not. With this stick, you know if your in or out of gear.

Awesome, direct feel to the shifting! Install was a piece of cake and the price is very affordable compared to the other brands of short sticks I’ve seen for our cars, and this is just as good! I have an ’02 ws6, and experienced no clearance issues (using my classic Hurst shifter ball) – just make sure you install the stick on the correct side of the shifter – follow the directions whether you think you need them or not, and things shall go smoothly. Very happy I got this upgrade and also chose the house brand and saved myself some money! Great product guys!

Installation was incredibly easy, and it works, and looks, 10 times better than the original shift stick. I topped mine off with the Anodized/Engraved Firebird Phoenix Shift Knob (23-400) for a better look. The only problem I’ve encountered, is that the shift knob bumps the back of the boot bezel a little in 2nd, 4rth, and 6th gear, but by no means affects the performance. This stick is $25 well spent. It put the shift knob right down where it should be, not too high, but also not too low. I was almost a little nervous that 6″ would make it too low, but the feel is great and it fits perfect. It really makes the shift into 3rd really easy; you basically just push straight forward, same going from 4th to 5th. The shorter throw makes shifting a lot faster and more precise, and I would recomend this stick to anyone looking for a shorter stick. Great product at a great price.

This shifter worked with my Pro 5.0 shifter but it made the shifter more of a reach and rubbed console in reverse because it is straight and the Pro 5.0 shift handle is about 20 degrees to the driver, so i used the torch and bent the WS6Store short stick just above the mounting base the same degree as the Pro 5.0 handle and i couldnt be happier with the height of the WS6Store short stick and the placement of the Pro 5.0.

I installed it in my 2002 Z and i dont know what the hell GM was thinking when they put that stock CRAP in. The best $25 ive spent on my ride. It made all my friends that own automatics wanna buy a manuel car. Just remember that your boot will look funny so look into getting a better looking one. I had a custom boot made from black carbon fiber leather with red stiching!

Great product for little cash! Shifts are more firm and it is easier to tell what gear you are in, even with the stock shifter. Does NOT come close to hitting console like some have said, just tilt handle forward when tightening like the instructions say and it is perfect. Not too short either, with tall hurst leather knob it is perfect. Well worth the 25 bucks.

The actual part is really easy to install. It can literally take 5 min. after you have the right tools and parts. The stick doesn’t feel as good as I had hoped. It still feels a little better than stock, but the amount of force to shift into gears increased dramatically. Not to the point where it’s really hard… but I think just a little too much. This is something I was expecting so there was no surprise there. The shifts themselves are definitely shorter and there is hardly any “wobble” in the stick. All in all it’s a good product and I would recommend it.

It did its job, my shifting was more precise and quick. Had one major problem though, when in 5th/6th/R gears, the shifter is too far to the right, and the bolt on the top would hit my console. Over time it started ripping a hole in my shift boot. I found out UMI actually sells, through their website, an almost equivalent product, that is the same price, and is curved toward the driver, to prevent this issue. I found it also makes it a lot easier to shift into 5th/6th/R being closer to me. For some reason the WS6 store does not have it in their listings (hint hint Mike).

I had this in my ’99 Z28, paired with an SLP short shifter, and I loved it! I was in a car club, and we always compared cars. Everyone was always in awe of how short the throw of my shifter was, and how precise it was. My car had seen both the drag strip, and the road course many times, and I can tell you that I never missed a shift once.
Side note: I plan on building another fourth gen Camaro again, and will absolutely buy another one of these sticks!
